Ideal for: New & Expecting Parents
Vertical Explorer Roadmap™
Because the home that welcomed your family should be ready to grow with them.
Professional, non-medical home safety assessments designed to help growing families make their home safer, smarter, and ready for every stage of their child’s development.
My family – Easter 2010. The real-life inspiration behind the SafelySituated mission.
You welcomed a new life into your home — and suddenly every corner, cabinet, and staircase looks different. That shift in perspective? That's exactly what a Vertical Explorer assessment is built for.
SafelySituated™ partners with you to take a clear-eyed look at your home through the lens of 30 years of occupational therapy experience — identifying the opportunities to make it safer, smarter, and more ready for every stage of your child's development. The result is a comprehensive written report, a prioritized action plan organized by your child's developmental stage, and the confidence that comes from knowing your home is truly ready for what's next.
Every curious little explorer deserves a home that's ready for them.
We assess your home as a living system — applying Universal Design principles to identify where small changes create the biggest impact on safety, independence, and daily comfort. We look at how your family moves through it, how light supports or challenges your child throughout the day, and where small friction points quietly accumulate over time. It's about understanding how every part of the home works together for the people who live there.
The Expert Eye Approach™
Our assessment focuses on four dimensions:
How your home flows.
We map circulation paths, doorway widths, and traffic patterns — identifying where your home supports your family's movement safely and where small hazards quietly accumulate.
How your home is lit.
Light affects safety in ways most people never notice until something goes wrong. We assess lighting throughout every room — including the subtle transition points that matter most for young children.
How your home is organized.
From cabinet locks to storage heights, the small decisions about where things live and how spaces are arranged have an outsized impact on child safety and daily family life.
How your home evolves.
We identify the opportunities today that keep your home ready for every stage of your child's development — incorporating Universal Design principles so your environment supports your family rather than limiting it.
We maintain an Objective Environmental Strategy — selling no products and accepting no referral fees — our only goal is your family's long-term safety. Using 30 years of professional insight in movement science, we identify the Environmental Micro-Stressors™ that most floor plans never account for: the lighting gaps, the floor-transition friction, and the reach zones that can either support or hinder your child's safety.
The Strategic Process
Step 1 — The On-Site Diagnostic
A deep-dive audit of your home's performance. We act as a neutral, professional voice — identifying the gaps between your home’s current layout and the evolving needs of a growing child. No opinions. No judgment. Just clear, objective findings.
Step 2 — The Vertical Explorer Roadmap™
Your assessment results in a proprietary SafelySituated™ Vertical Explorer Roadmap — delivered as a comprehensive report. This room-by-room blueprint is organized by your child's developmental stages, giving you a concrete plan for now and a clear picture of what comes next.
Because SafelySituated sells no modification products and accepts zero referral fees, you can trust that every recommendation is 100% unbiased and strictly in your family’s best interest.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Ideally before — the third trimester is a great time. You'll have the energy to make changes and the peace of mind knowing your home is ready. That said, it's never too late, and many parents schedule when baby starts crawling or pulling to stand.
-
Most in-person assessments take 1.5 to 3 hours depending on home size. Virtual assessments typically run 60 to 90 minutes. We understand that nap schedules happen and we are happy to work around your family's rhythm.
-
No — SafelySituated provides non-medical home safety consulting. Our assessments focus on the physical environment of your home, not your child's medical development. Always follow your pediatrician's guidance for health and developmental matters.
-
No — SafelySituated is a consulting service, not a contracting service. We identify what your home needs and provide a prioritized guide, but installation (gates, locks, anchoring furniture, etc.) is done by you or a professional you choose. Many recommendations are simple DIY fixes; for larger projects, we recommend a licensed contractor.
-
We provide a resource and product guide with categories and general recommendations — for example, types of cabinet locks, gate styles for your staircase, or window safety options. The goal is to empower you to make informed choices — we never sell products or accept referral fees, so every recommendation is unbiased.
-
Absolutely — the Global Virtual Roadmap™ is available worldwide. We conduct a thorough video walkthrough, deliver a written report, and schedule a follow-up call.
-
There are no surprise charges for multi-story homes, travel within Orange County, or family calls — the price you see is the price you pay.
-
Your child's abilities can change quickly — what's safe at six months may not be safe at sixteen. The Annual Safety Refresh ($175) is a shorter follow-up visit to reassess your home against your child's current stage of development and flag new hazards before they become problems.
“Give your curious explorer a home that’s ready for them.”
