Optimizing for Autonomy • Thriving in Place
Future Ready Roadmap™
The best time to prepare your home is before you need to.
Professional, non-medical home safety assessments designed to help you stay in the home you love — safely, confidently, and on own terms.
My mom and dad – the real-life family inspiration behind the SafelySituated mission.
You are proactive, independent, and intentional about how you live. You plan ahead — for travel, for finances, for health. Your home deserves the same thoughtful attention.
SafelySituated™ partners with you to take a clear-eyed look at your home through the lens of 30 years of experience in the field of occupational therapy — identifying opportunities to make it work better, safer, and smarter for the life you are actively living and the adventures still ahead.
The result is a comprehensive written report, a prioritized action plan, and the confidence that comes from knowing your home is truly ready for what's next.
At SafelySituated™, we reject the passive concept of "aging in place." We believe in Thriving in Place™ — an active strategy for the proactive adult who views their home as a high-performing foundation for their lifestyle. The Future Ready Roadmap™ is a professional, non-medical assessment designed so your environment never dictates your limitations.
Too often, that kind of planning conjures clinical modifications and hospital-looking hardware. At SafelySituated, your sanctuary should never lose its soul. We identify the subtle environmental opportunities today so you can maintain your autonomy and independence tomorrow.
We assess your home as a living system — applying Universal Design principles to identify where small changes create the biggest impact on safety, independence, and daily comfort. We look at how you move through it, how light supports or challenges you throughout the day, and where small friction points quietly accumulate over time. It's about understanding how every part of the home works together for the people who live there.
The Expert Eye Approach™
Our assessment focuses on four dimensions:
How your home flows.
We look at circulation paths, doorway widths, and traffic patterns — identifying where your home supports your movement and where it quietly works against you
How your home is lit.
Light affects safety, energy, and mood in ways most people never notice until something goes wrong. We assess your home's visual environment across every room and every hour of the day.
How your home is organized.
From cabinet depth to bathroom ergonomics, the small decisions about where things live and how spaces are arranged have an outsized impact on daily independence.
How your home evolves.
We identify the subtle opportunities today that keep your home working for you tomorrow — so your environment supports your lifestyle instead of limiting it.
We maintain an Objective Environmental Strategy — selling no products and accepting no referral fees — our only goal is your long-term independence. Using 30 years of professional insight in movement science, we identify the Environmental Micro-Stressors™ that most floor plans never account for: the lighting gaps, the floor-transition friction, and the reach zones that can either support or hinder your independence.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Absolutely — in fact, the best time for a Future Ready assessment is before there's a problem. Most safety risks in the home develop gradually and aren't obvious until after an incident. A proactive assessment identifies opportunities for improvement early, giving you time to make changes thoughtfully and on your own schedule.
-
A Future Ready assessment covers your entire home — interior rooms, hallways, staircase, bathrooms, kitchen, bedrooms, entry, and exterior including walkways, steps, and the garage. Outdoor spaces such as patios, yards, and pool areas are included in the Standard tier and above.
-
You don't need to do anything special. There is no need to clean, reorganize, or prepare your home in any way. We assess your home exactly as you live in it — that's what makes the findings genuinely useful. Simply be present and ready to share your goals and any areas of concern.
-
Most in-person assessments take 1.5 to 3 hours depending on the size of the home. Virtual assessments typically run 60 to 90 minutes.
-
You'll receive a comprehensive written report with a room-by-room summary of findings rated by priority, a prioritized action plan with specific recommendations, and a Client Resource Guide with product categories and general guidance. It's written in clear, accessible language so it's easy to share with family members, contractors, or anyone helping you implement the recommendations. Your included follow-up call gives you the opportunity to ask questions and discuss next steps at your own pace.
-
No — SafelySituated is a consulting service, not a contracting service. We assess your home and provide expert recommendations, but do not perform installations or modifications. For implementation, we recommend working with a licensed contractor. Always verify contractor licensing at cslb.ca.gov before hiring anyone in California
-
No. SafelySituated provides non-medical home safety consulting services. While Jen brings 30 years of experience in the field of occupational therapy and holds CAPS, SHSS, and CLIPP certifications, the assessment is an observational, consultative service — not a clinical evaluation. We always recommend consulting your physician or licensed therapist for medical guidance.
-
There are no surprise charges for multi-story homes, travel within Orange County, or family calls — the price you see is the price you pay.
-
Your home and needs can evolve over time — mobility, routines, and even the layout of a room can shift from one year to the next. The Annual Safety Refresh ($175) is a shorter follow-up visit for returning clients to revisit your original Future Ready Roadmap, note what's changed, and flag any new opportunities before they become problems.
“Autonomy is the ultimate luxury. Your home should rise to meet it”
– Jen, SafelySituated™
