Many adult children simply say, “I’d love to have an expert take a look so we can both feel confident.” It also helps to invite your parent to choose the date and share their own priorities for the visit. Remind them that every recommendation is theirs to accept or decline, because it's their home and their decision. Jen is experienced at building rapport with parents and approaches every assessment with deep respect for their choices and their home.

An assessment can give your family a clearer picture of how well the home currently supports your parent and what changes could help them stay there comfortably. Decisions about care or living arrangements should be made with your parent's physician and care team, because SafelySituated™ does not provide medical assessments or care recommendations.

Yes, and for the Family Assurance Roadmap™ it's encouraged. Being there in person lets you hear findings firsthand, ask questions in the moment, and understand the recommendations so you can support implementation.

If you can't attend in person, we're happy to include you by phone or video for a brief introduction at the start or a wrap-up at the end, and Jen manages the call. During the walkthrough itself, we keep the focus entirely on your parent, so they can move through their home naturally without having to manage a phone or screen. A family briefing call is included in the Standard tier and above, so you can hear the findings even if you can’t attend.

Yes. Virtual home reviews are available worldwide, in any time zone. We guide you and your parent through a live video walkthrough, room by room, using a phone or tablet. Your parent takes part in the walkthrough, so they stay in control of what we see.

Please note: A virtual home review follows the same room-by-room approach but is not a substitute for an in-person assessment. Recommendations are based only on what you show us on screen and the information and measurements you provide. We cannot independently verify the conditions, measurements, or features of the home, and some details, like exact step heights, doorway widths, and floor transitions, can only be measured in person.

Before you book, we’ll go over what is and isn’t included, so your family can choose the option that’s right for your parent’s home. You’ll receive a personalized Family Assurance Roadmap based on your review. All you’ll need is a smartphone or tablet, a good internet connection, and a tape measure. Most in-person assessments take 1.5 to 3 hours depending on the size of the home. Virtual home reviews typically run 60 to 90 minutes.

SafelySituated is a consulting service, not a contracting service, and we don't recommend specific contractors, brands, or products. Instead, your report outlines the types of changes and product categories that fit your parent's home, and we'll help you understand what to look for and which questions to ask. For any modifications, we recommend working with a licensed contractor. Always verify licensing at cslb.ca.gov before hiring anyone in California.

Our assessments are visual and non-invasive. We don’t test the strength or anchoring of grab bars or railings, verify building code compliance, measure floor slip resistance, or test safety systems like smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Any recommendation involving structural work, permits, or safety systems should be evaluated and installed by a licensed contractor or qualified professional.

You’ll receive a detailed written report with a room-by-room summary of findings organized by priority, a prioritized action plan, and a resource guide with product categories and general guidance. It’s written in clear, accessible language, so it’s easy to share with family members, contractors, or anyone helping you implement the recommendations. Your included follow-up call gives you the opportunity to ask questions and discuss next steps at your own pace.

Your parent's needs can evolve over time — mobility, routines, and even the layout of a room can shift from one year to the next. The Annual Safety Refresh ($175) is a shorter follow-up visit for returning clients to revisit your original Family Assurance Roadmap, note what’s changed, and highlight new potential concerns.
